Human spirit and heart are synonymous

I've been learning what makes people unique from other animals is the spirit God breathed into the first man that made him a living being. We are spirit, soul and body (1 Thessalonians 5:23). While animals have a soul and body, they do not have a spirit. Angels and demons are spiritual beings that can possess a soul (mind/will Matthew 17:15,18) and body (Luke 13:11). Many demons can possess a single soul and body - so they are not like people in that sense.
Mary Magdelene had 7 spirits and others had a legion of demons (who then possess the heard of pigs and died).

As I was reviewing the study of Romans 1:16-17, I was struck by the NIVs cross references for "believe"
the gospel,(A) because it is the power of God(B) that brings salvation to everyone who believes:(C)
  1. Romans 1:16 : 2Ti 1:8
  2. Romans 1:16 : 1Co 1:18
  3. Romans 1:16 : S Jn 3:15
John 3:15, then had all these: important to believe God

This brought me to wonder, Is heart and spirit the same thing?

Romans 10:10,
For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

Hebrews 4:12,
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
