A) Jesus gives unshakable hope for our mind and soul
3:1) holy family, share heavenly calling, fix thoughts on Jesus, acknowledge apostle, high priest
- 1 Tim 6:12) take hold of eternal life to which you were called
- Heb 4:14) Jesus great high priest, Son of God
- Heb 10:23) hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, God who promised is faithful
- 2 Cor 9:13) because by our service others will praise God
2-5) Jesus faithful like Moses, servant in God's house - but Christ is faithful as the Son over God's house
6) we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory
- Heb 3:14) we have come to share in Christ, if we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end
- Rom 11:22) consider the kindness and sternness of God
Gracious, Diligent, Unchangeable, Firm/Secure, Better, Confident HOPE: Ro 5:2 (gained access by faith into this grace); Heb 6:11, 18, 19; 7:19; 11:1
B) Sin deceitfulness hardens hearts, but God's voice comes through and we encourage each other
7-11) Today, if you hear his voice do not harden your hearts (rebellion, family history, hearts always going astray, didn't know God's ways, never resting in Him)
12-15) God's family see to it: no sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God (Psalm 95:7,8), but encourage one another daily so we aren't hardened by sins deceitfulness
Application:
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another... Hebrews 10:24, 25
C) Hard heart ends in unbelief and the greatest loss
16-19) who heard and rebelled? They were led out of Egypt but were not able to God's rest because of their unbelief
- for they did not believe in God or trust in his deliverance.Psalm 78:22
- Then they despised the pleasant land; they did not believe his promise. Psalm 106:24
- Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for...John 3:36
