Joshua wastes no time living into God's promises

In Hebrew the meaning of the name Joshua is: Jehovah is generous. Jehovah saves.
New Testament references to Joshua:

  • Geneology of Jesus (Luke 3:23-38,29) the son of Joshua, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi
  • Stephan summarizes the history of Israel (Acts 7:1-53), Acts 7:45
  • Believers Rest (Hebrews 4), Hebrews 4:8 For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that.
My friend Ryan shared the hierarchy of competence with me on Friday. The idea is that people start with unconscious incompetence, meaning they have the wrong intuition. Often times non-believers are in this boat. They haven't analyzed the scriptures to understand the truths it contains. Jesus said to the smartest people of his day, “You are mistaken because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God." (Matthew 22:29)

A) First steps of faith are counter intuitive

God leads Joshua to bring Israel into the promise land (Joshua 1-5:12)
  - Loving obedience will characterize those who belong to God
God's judgment and grace displayed in Jericho, AI and Gibeon (Joshua 5:13-9:27)

B) God is the source of personal victories, inheritance, and legacy
We listen to and follow the Lord, He listens to us giving victory (Joshua 10-12)
Joshua divides the land according to God's promises (Joshua 13-21)
Joshua recounts history and covenant to the Lord before death (Joshua 22-24)
