Search me, O God, and know my heart (Psalm 139)

Psalm 139
Psalm 139:23-24
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
Point out anything in me that offends you,
and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

A) God has searched us, knows our entire life completely
(1-2) You Lord have searched me, knows me perceives my thoughts
(3-4) familiar with all my ways, even words not spoken known completely
(5-6) Enclosed me behind and before, hand upon me - this knowledge is unattainable
  • Great is God's wisdom and knowledge, judgments are unsearchable (Romans 11:33)
(7) Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?
  • Jacob awoke, "Surely the Lord is in this place and I didn't know it" (Gen 28:16)
  • The universe can't contain God, no place to hide (1 Kings 8:27, Jeremiah 23:23,24)
  • People do try and flee from the Lord (Jonah 1:3,10, Revelation 20:11)
(8-9) Heaven, earth you are there
  • Neither life nor death can separate us from God's love - (Romans 8:38)
(10) Even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast
  • He makes me lie down in green pastures, leads me beside quiet waters, restores my soul, guides me in paths of righteousness For His name's sake (Psalm 23:2,3)
  • My soul follows hard after you; your right hand upholds me (Psalm 63:8)
  • I'm continually with you (Psalm 73:23)

(11-12) Darkness will not be dark to God

(13-14) Lord created my inmost being, knit me together in mother's womb, praise I'm fearfully, wonderfully made
(15-16) You watched me being formed in the womb, my unformed body, ordained all the days before they came to be
(17-18) Your thoughts are precious to me, infinite and wise
(19-22) I'm Lamenting over God's enemies
(23-24) Search me, know my heart, test me - point out anything in me that offends you
