Jason VanWert, my friend in heaven forgives you (Heb 12:10-29)

...you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, … to the assembly of God’s firstborn children, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God himself, who is the judge over all things. You have come to the spirits of the righteous ones in heaven who have now been made perfect. You have come to Jesus, the one who mediates the new covenant between God and people, and to the sprinkled blood, which speaks of forgiveness instead of crying out for vengeance like the blood of Abel…Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking... Heb 12:10-29

Jason died Dec 4, 2024 at age 54. Jason changed my life. I got to share this with family and friends yesterday and pray forgiveness in Jesus Name.

  • The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. Psalm 145:18
  • For “Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.” But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? Romans 10:13-15
  • That the Lord would deliver you from temptation (Matt 5 and Matt 6-7), to remove any negative desire (James 1:2-12) and replace it with the peace that only Jesus can give (John 14 and John 15). The peace that surpasses understanding (1 Peter 2-3 and 1 Peter 4). That you would be empowered to for every good work (2 Tim 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1), guided by the Holy Spirit (John 16). That people would see you and know Jesus Christ.

Jason and I giving out water and simple gospel message, “John 4:14, But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.”
Love is powerful. Many of you know that Jason is a Christian. What is a Christian? Jesus defined a Christian by Love. “by your love they will know that you are my disciples.”   Jason loved you and we prayed for you guys. But what is prayer and specifically what is Christian prayer ? Christian prayer is coming before the Creator of heaven and earth with your arm around Jesus, guided by the Holy Spirit and we agree with God. We agree with God as he has revealed himself in creation, in ourselves, and supremely in Jesus Christ
When we agree with God the Holy Spirit of God testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. He calls us to be his ambassador, so that when we speak God is making his appeal to you through us. We learn to “pray continually” so that our thoughts, words, and actions are in tune with God’s perfect and pleasing will. Harmony, beauty, synchronicity, resonance, satisfaction, glory, light, clarity, sobriety, peace, love, joy, hope, rapture, ETERNAL LIFE.
Being in tune with God’s will is only possible by trusting that Jesus paid for our sin on the cross at Calvery, that by HIS WOUNDS you are healed (Jer 17:14, Isaiah 53:5 ,1 Peter 2:24, 2 Cor 5:19). When we are healed by God, we no longer need to mask our pain, hiding in darkness, or prop ourselves up, trying to be worthy or seek revenge with the devil. Rather we receive the Word of God that says, “I love you… Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 NLT

Jason showed me what the “yoke of Christian ministry” is by asking simple questions.
  • What is Psalm 119:11? Jason had found a blog  I started but had not shared anything yet, in fact I had forgotten about it. In our talks I discovered that he was helping me. Like a good friend who holds up a mirror when we do not look our best, so that we can fix it. “I’ve hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” Transformed into “Helping myself and others trust and follow God.” Now 300 people a day from all over the world hear God’s Word.
  • On another occasion he asked me what “Revive Twin Cities”  was about. This turned into a ministry of temporary nourishment, simple gospel. We would give a drink of water and tweet sized message of faith, hope, and love. Over 5,000 were hand given a gift and message of hope.
  • Jason had a vision of “Teen Challenge Native” where the truth from Revelation 7:9 would be proclaimed, “there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people, and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.” This turned into Alpha at every Teen Challenge campus .
I remember visiting Jason in St Cloud, he was frightened and so we prayed for a miracle, that he would be transferred to a safer place. The next day he was transferred to Moose Lake. It felt as miraculous as the story of Apostle in Acts walking out of prison and into the prayer meeting with everyone. I am sharing this with you because God gives us moments where we are humbled, when there is nothing, we can do to change our circumstance. The only thing we can do is pray, sometimes the only word we know is “help me.” My hope for you is that you will call out to God, commit yourself to Him, agree with God and he will bring someone in your life who helps you see that the Good News of Jesus changes everything.
Jason believed in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He is in heaven, being welcomed by Jesus and his family. The Bible teaches us that the first children killed eachother. Cain killed Able and the blood of Able spoke to God, but the blood of Jesus speaks a different word. The blood of Jesus speaks forgiveness, mercy, and grace, even to those who do us harm. Now listen as Jason’s blood speaks forgiveness with his Lord and Savior.
Jesus taught us to pray, “Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.” So today I want to forgive everyone who harmed Jason intentionally, or accidently. I want to forgive those, who under deception from the devil, gave Jason drugs. Even those who intentionally wanted to destroy Jason’s testimony. I want to pray forgiveness over everyone who believed the lie about drugs and alcohol, who in deception thought they were helping people. In the name of Jesus Christ, I forgive you and I ask you to receive this forgiveness and new life that Jesus made available. The Holy Spirit of God is here, reminding you of everything Jesus said and did. Today is the day of Salvation, let Jesus give you a fresh start every day, receive new mercy and clarity. Please let this message grow and produce the fruit of the Spirit in all your relationships, with God, yourself, family, the church, and everyone else. May God bless you all. Amen.

I'm grateful the family and friends I get to share this memory of friend with. May God bless you!
