I thought "spiritual failures" was a good description of people. Life shows us this is true as we don't do all we should and all too often do what we shouldn't. The Gospel of Jesus shows us we're loved by God the Father and forgiven in Christ as our kinsman redeemer and he made atonement for our sins on the Cross and proved to be true at his resurrection. Jesus taught all sins would be forgiven with exception to blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. People who reject the Spirit's leading will be disciplined at best and given over to a depraved mind at worst.
This was from a good teaching on Jonah 1-4, how a person called by God but not doing the will of God impacts those around him. God shows him he's there for them and reveals that all people are religious yet tend to turn from God rather than towards him. Love the practical teaching style of Tim Keller.
