A Bond Servant of Christ daily devotion

In a review of Peter shows how born again faith grows up into quality faith (2 Peter 1:1-11), I was drawn to how the apostles introduced themselves as a slave to Christ. This brought me to ask What is a bondservant / bond-servant? What does it look like?
  • Abraham (Genesis 26:24; Numbers 12:7), Abraham was confidently looking forward to a city with eternal foundations, a city designed and built by God. Heb 11:10
  • Joshua (Joshua 24:29), Now if Joshua had succeeded in giving them this rest, God would not have spoken about another day of rest still to come. Heb 4:8
  • David (2 Samuel 7:5), So God’s rest is there for people to enter, but those who first heard this good news failed to enter because they disobeyed God. So God set another time for entering his rest, and that time is today. God announced this through David much later in the words already quoted: “Today when you hear his voice, don’t harden your hearts.” Heb 4:6-7, Psalm 95:7-8
  • Isaiah (Isaiah 20:3), But not everyone welcomes the Good News, for Isaiah the prophet said, “Lord, who has believed our message?” (Romans 10:16), And later Isaiah spoke boldly for God, saying, “I was found by people who were not looking for me. I showed myself to those who were not asking for me.” (Romans 10:20)
  • Messiah (Isaiah 53:11), And every day, in the Temple and from house to house, they continued to teach and preach this message: “Jesus is the Messiah.” Acts 5:42
Jesus taught about being a faithful servant in Matthew 25:14-30 and Luke 12:41-48. That greatest is “the servant of all” (Mark 9:35).

Yesterday our SALT and Light Bible verse was Philippians 2:3
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,

  • But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow wickedness, there will be wrath and anger. Romans 2:8 -God's righteousness can be applied to our hearts through repentance (Romans 2)
  • Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying one another. Galatians 5:26
  • Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Ephesians 5:21
  • Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Outdo yourselves in honoring one another. Romans 12:10
But the tax collector stood at a distance, unwilling even to lift up his eyes to heaven. Instead, he beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner!’ I tell you, this man, rather than the Pharisee, went home justified. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.” Luke 18:13-14
