God's Word is a mirror for us to see our spiritual selves clearly

But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. James 1:22-25

 - We must have sight of sin that is in our heart

The sin we don't grieve is sin that has deceived us

Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God. You must warn each other every day, while it is still “today,” so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God.

 - We need each other's help every day as we ingest God's Word

God's Word comes with power from the Holy Spirit who reveals truth to the listener

For when we brought you the Good News, it was not only with words but also with power, for the Holy Spirit gave you full assurance that what we said was true. And you know of our concern for you from the way we lived when we were with you. 1 Thes 1:5

 - Our lives reflect the effectiveness of the truth God has revealed.
