Error of the lawless (2 Peter 3:16-18)

"Some parts of his (Apostle Paul) letters are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction. Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen 2 Peter 3:16-18

Ignorance is self induced:

Reading Got Questions false-doctrine

  • They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed. Accursed children! 2 Peter 2:14
    • Lawless: they have unchecked covetousness
  • But I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and seducing my servants to practice sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols. Rev 2:20
    • Modern music and entertainment fill our eyes with adultery, seducing us who expose ourselves to it
  •  So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds. 2 Cor 11:15 (like the devil in Gen 3 and Matt 4)
    • Unstable people distort and promote evil with vigor, convinced they are servants of righteousness.

What can we do to not be carried away by the error of the lawless? You'd think it's to be lawful, however the prescription is to "grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."
