Twice born or twice dead

I'm reading Man the Dwelling Place of God: What it Means to Have Christ Living in You  by Tozer (.99 kindle edition). Very thought provoking statement he makes about 2 types of humans, once born and twice born. I remmeber my friend John at Grace in the City making the statement: your either twice born or twice dead. That got me thinking of the scriptural support for this. Apparently, this came from Martin Luther's Bible,

"It was at this passage that, after his death, they found two short phrases handwritten in the margin of Martin Luther's Bible. These two phrases he had written certainly do express the truth as taught in the Scriptures concerning judgment and eternity. Twice Born:
"Jesus answered and said unto him, 'Truly, truly I say unto you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God... unless one is born of the water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." (John 3:3,5).

When we hear the word of truth, we should desire repentance and baptism

Or Twice Dead:

Revelation 20:14 tells us, "Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." The second death is mentioned again in Revelation 21:8, which says, "But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death." The second death is Hell. - Born Twice, Die Once

Death in the body, dead in spirit:
Romans 6:23, James 2:26, Eph 2:1,12, Rev 20:11-15, 21:8,20:10,14:9-11,Mark 9:42-28, Matt 25:30, 41, 46, 22:13
