Overrun with temptation? Wake up and pray.

When Jesus rose from prayer and returned to the disciples, He found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. “Why are you sleeping?” He asked. “Get up and pray so that you will not enter into temptation.” While He was still speaking, a crowd arrived, led by the man called Judas, one of the Twelve. He approached Jesus to kiss Him...

Jesus already told them the cure for temptation is prayer (Luke 11:1, 22:40). Yet the disciples like us are exhausted from sorrow and sleeping. Jesus said, "take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life and THAT day come upon you unawares..." Luke 21:34-36. Don't join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves with on meat (Proverbs 23:20), lest you become like fish caught in a net/trapped, ensnared in an evil time (Ecclesiastes 9:12)

Do you pray against temptation? The Christian most prepared to conquer temptation is the one who prays and plans against it. Is filled with God's word and overflowing in the Holy Spirit. Satisfied, ready for every good work.

What's the plan? Praying against temptation sets us on the path of planning against it as well. (The plan is to take Gods' word to heart Mark 4:19, be on the lookout (Matt 24:42, Luke 12:40)

“God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape” (1 Corinthians 10:13). Like Joseph, it may mean running (Genesis 39:11–12). Like Jesus, it often will mean rehearsing the very words of God (Matthew 4:1–11) or staying silent before fools (Matthew 26:63; Mark 14:61; Acts 8:32).
“The Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials” (2 Peter 2:9), not just guard them from trials. And the Christian most prepared to conquer temptation is the one who prays and plans against it.
