How do we overcome the urge to follow the flesh?

Was doing lesson 11 about the flesh yesterday at SALT Extraordinary. Perfect with the lesson from BSF on "cross for the believer"

  • Power injected by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17)
    • - one, yet new
  • Holy Spirit amazing effects on our bodies (Romans 8:10-11)
    • Discernment (Heb)
  • Freedom but don't destroy it (Gal 5:1, 13 MSG), serve one another in love grows freedom
    • Gal 5:16, live habitually in the Spirit, then you don't fulfil desires of the flesh
    • Gal 5:24, crucify the flesh (Proactively)
  • Legalism focus on what you don't have, Spirit focuses on what you do have.
    • Sin gets it's power from the law
    • What to do , not what not to do. Proactive right steps
    • Romans 12:1-2 (offer yourselves).

But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him.1 Corinthians 6:17

  • The Lord’s light penetrates the human spirit, exposing every hidden motive. Proverbs 20:27
  • But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. 1 Corinthians 2:14
  • For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Hebrews 4:12
    • Flesh (outside sensory), Soul (mind, emotions), Spirit (life)
    • The heart is all the Spirit and some of the soul

James 1:19-21
Listening and Doing
19 Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. 20 Human anger[a] does not produce the righteousness[b] God desires. 21 So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.

2 Cor 5:1-3
For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands. 2 We grow weary in our present bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies like-new clothing. 3 For we will put on heavenly bodies; we will not be spirits without bodies
God’s inspired word uses clothing symbolically to show how spiritual transformation takes place in the life of born again believers

Romans 8:1-2
Life in the Spirit
8 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. 2 And because you belong to him, the power[a] of the life-giving Spirit has freed you[b] from the power of sin that leads to death.

  • The Law of lift supersedes the law of gravity. Airplanes! Holy Spirit (Airplane) of God's grace fueled by faith. Don't stay bound to the ground.
  • For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. 8 That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God. Romans 8:7-8
  • Therefore, dear brothers and sisters (Christians),[a] you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. 13 For if you live by its dictates, you will die. But if through the power of the Spirit you put to death the deeds of your sinful nature,[b] you will live. Romans 8:12-13
