Misunderstanding temptations source being our desire, rather than God

Temptation is meant to harm, pollute and destroy your faith in God.
 - Fisherman hides hook in bait

And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away.
James 1:13‭-‬14 NLT

Trials and temptation go together. Trial at work can bring a temptation to respond in an ungodly response. Why James discussed trials in v1-12 and temptation in v13-18.

V15) desire gets together with temptation, they conceive sin. Keep desire away from temptation. Change desire and affection by delighting yourself in the Lord (Psalm 34)

Vulnerability to temptation comes when we misunderstand the power of God's word.

So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls... do what it says...look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.
James 1:21‭-‬22‭, ‬25 NLT

Vulnerability comes when we misunderstand God's consistently good character (James 1:17). The sun is consistent, the stars are dependable and so James uses them as a metaphor.

If we are not experiencing God's goodness we have moved away from him. We can draw near to God and we can turn to him and receive forgiveness.

Remember who you are and what God says about you. See yourself in God's word (v24). Renounce the lies you've believed about God, knowing the devil is the father of lies. Renounce the devil.

Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from the true faith; they will follow deceptive spirits and teachings that come from demons.
1 Timothy 4:1 NLT
