AIM: Kingdom character produces influence stemming from our identity in Christ
A) Jesus teaches heaven and earth belong to honest, humble people (1-5)
B) Jesus teaches desire for righteousness, mercy, purity, and peace enables an intimate relationship with God (6-9)
C) Jesus teaches the world hates him and us also, yet we are salt and light, heaven minded for earthly good (10-16)
1-2) Jesus teaches crowds on mountainside with disciples
3-5) Blessed ARE poor in spirit, mourn, meek; kingdom of heaven NOW, WILL later comforted, inherit earth
- Application: Do I see the end of my life is near? How does having the kingdom of heaven now impact future promises? 1 Peter 4:7-11, Phil 4:4-7
- MSG: With less of you there is more of God and his rule.
6-9) Blessed ARE hunger and thirst for righteousness, merciful, pure in heart, peacemakers; WILL Be filled, shown mercy, see God, called children of God
- Application: Having seen myself as God sees me have my affections changed towards righteousness, mercy, purity, and making peace? Is my faith confidence in being satisfied?
10) Blessed ARE those persecuted because of righteousness; kingdom of heaven is NOW
11-12) Blessed ARE, insulted, persecuted, falsely say evil to discredit Jesus, great IS reward in heaven
13-16) We are preservatives and flavor (salt), we share everything Jesus taught (light).
- Application: Is my light shining into dark places, do I have the fuel needed from God's kingdom to sustain light for the whole house? Salt is good for flavor and also for dung heap. Discovering the Light of listening and being Salt (Luke 8-14)
