Why parables contain secrets of the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 13:10-17; Isaiah 6:9-10)

 Matthew 13:10-17; Isaiah 6:9-10

Jesus acknowledges that secrets of the kingdom of heaven are given to those whose hearts are prepared to receive it (Matthew 13:23). Like when a seed becomes a tree over three seasons (survive, stay alive, thrive) - "Whoever has will be given more, and they will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them."

 - This truth was revealed to Isaiah almost 1000 years earlier. Who explains that people losing out have hearts that have become calloused. They don't spend time hearing and actually have closed their eyes. Cool thing is that opening one's eyes is pretty easy to do and he affirms it starts with eyes, then ears, then hearts, then turning to God. God then promises "I would heal them." That's good news!

 - We should pray God open my eyes to your kingdom, instead of God heal my calloused heart. I'm excited to participate in healing night at Alpha this weekend.

But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear. For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it. Matthew 13:16-17

In what ways are Jesus’ followers blessed with the “secrets of the kingdom of heaven”?

  • Knowing it's all about God, his goodwill and salvation of people
  • God calls, equips, holds us, gives faith, and shows us good works he planned for us
  • His grace is poured out on all humans, an awesome gift of being able to know Him personally
  • God loves us, every one of us - so much that he was in Christ reconciling the world to himself
  • While many choose the path that leads to hell, Jesus is the way the truth and the life
  • We have rest for our souls, abiding in him, supernaturally bearing good fruit, prepared for every good deed
