Deliverance from the former way of life (Romans 7:24, John 15:1-17)

My friend Ron (MNTC) told me about this sermon he had to give on a moment's notice about "Pruning" he connect Romans 7:24 to John 15 and had a brilliant illustration. He picked up a client and put him on his back and walked around. The message, let God cut this out and walk in a new life today. I love Ron, what a friend.

AIM: Let God cut off the old parts that are dead and not relevant to you now.

Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? - Romans 7:24 ESV

  • We know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be rendered powerless, that we should no longer be slaves to sin. - Romans 6:6
  • For in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set you free from the law of sin and death. - Romans 8:2
  • Not only that, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. - Romans 8:23
  • In Him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of your sinful nature, with the circumcision performed by Christ and not by human hands. - Colossians 2:11

(John 15:16-17) Jesus chose us, not us choosing him, appointed to produce lasting fruit Father gives whatever you ask in Jesus name - love each other
  • Election: make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble (2 Peter 1:10)
  • Fruit that lasts: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-23)
  • live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God (Colossians 1:10)
I later found out this is Ron's birthday (Jan 8)
