Obeying from the heart allegiance to righteousness (Romans 6:17-18)

Practical righteousness doesn't mean "self-serving" righteousness; other words for practical are "hands-on," "real," "actual," "active," and "applied". "Practical" is concerned with the actual doing or use of something rather than with theory and ideas.

When the Lord sanctifies me, my desire changes, and my perspective on people changes. I see myself growing to be more like Jesus in how I think about people and live with God. His instructions move from theory to practice.

No longer slave to sin, but obeying everything Jesus commanded from the heart (Romans 6)

My dear friend is still struggling with these words. So I find myself needing to go deeper after discussion and prayer. May he find these words not harmful and dangerous.

Romans 6:1-23; 8:12-13; Ephesians 4:22–5:20; 1 Thessalonians 4:3, 7; Col 3:1-17

Practical Righteousness is that we no longer live in sin but in a new life (Romans 6:4). We once offered ourselves to sin, but now having been baptized into Christ Jesus (Romans 6:3) we offer every part of ourselves to God as an instrument of righteousness (Romans 6:13). Sin is no longer my master, not under law but under grace (Romans 6:14). Obeying from the heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance, set free from sin, and have become slaves to righteousness (Romans 6:17-18).

Practical righteousness is freedom from sin, controlled by the righteousness of our God our master (Romans 6:19-20)

 - An example that comes to mind about this righteousness that leads to holiness is like water evaporating and leaving impurities behind.

Practical righteousness is no longer working for sin that pays with death, but rather receiving the gift of God, eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23).

We are not obligated to live according to the flesh, if by the Spirit I put to death the misdeeds of the body, I will live (Romans 8:12-13).

The pattern of teaching: Put to death our former way of life, corrupted by deceitful desires being made new in the attitude of mind - like God, true righteousness and holiness (Eph 4:22-24)

Day-old anger gives birth to sin, giving the devil a foothold. Thieves are cured through working and generosity to those in need (Eph 4:25-28)

Unwholesome talk, bitterness, rage, anger, brawling, slander, and malice grieves the Holy Spirit of God. So let our words be helpful, benefiting those who listen, kind, compassionate, forgiving, walking in the way of Love (Eph 4:29-5:2)
