Aleph: Joyful people of integrity (honest, unified), follow instruction of LORD, obey, search whole heartedly, walk consistently, lifelong learning, thankful to and dependant on the LORD - Psalm 119:1-8
1) Joyful, blessed, favored by God are people of integrity, whose way is blameless undefiled, upright, and guileless. They follow the instructions of the LORD, walk in His Law and are guided by the precepts and revealed will of the Lord. Anyone who does what pleases God will live forever (1 John 2:17)
2) Joyful, blessed, favored by God are people who obey His laws, comply with and keep His testimonies, who consistently search for and seek Him, longing for Him wholeheartedly. King of Kings, prepares our heart to receive the good news about the Kingdom (Part 2)
3) They don't compromise with evil (injustice, iniquity, wrong, unrighteousness), they walk in His ways.
- Practicing righteousness, not sin (1 John 3:7-9, 2:29) - protected by God (1 John 5:18), set free from sin, bound to righteousness (Romans 6:18), leading to holiness, resulting in eternal life (Romans 6:22). Holy because He who called you is holy, be holy in all you do (1 Peter 1:15-16), do the word (James 1:22-25).
- Aim for perfection, God's will (Matthew 5:48, 7:21), Love does no wrong to its neighbor (Romans 13:10).
- Commandments of the LORD, testimonies and statutes given to be followed in love for Him, walk in ALL HIS WAYS, hold fast to Him (Deut 6:17, 11:22). Be very careful to observe the commandment and the law, SERVE HIM with all your heart and with all your soul (Joshua 22:5).
- God is faithful, lovingly devoted to those who love him and keep his commandments (Neh 1:5). Admonishes us to repent of our sins today (Neh 9:29, Romans 12:1-4). Let your heart keep his commandments (Prov 3:1), results in peace like a river (Isaiah 48:18).
- This is the heart of God, love me by keeping my commandments (John 14:15, 15:10) teach others to do the same (Matt 28:20)
5) Oh that my actions were steadfast, consistently obeying and reflecting your decrees (chuqqah). That my ways were committed and firmly established to keeping your statutes (chuqqah).
- Statute (choq) = "prescription, rule, law, regulation (Vine’s Expository Dictionary)” and can refer to laws of nature (Job 28:26; Jeremiah 5:22; 31:35–36) or what is allocated, rationed, or apportioned to someone (Genesis 47:22; Exodus 29:28)
- This has Statute (chuqqah). More specific, it refers to a particular law related to a festival or ritual, such as Passover (Exodus 12:14), the Days of Unleavened Bread (Exodus 12:17), or the Feast of Tabernacles (Leviticus 23:41).
- Lord's Supper (Luke 22:19-20, Matt 26:26-28, Mark 14:22-24). Do this in remembrance of me... For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are [symbolically] proclaiming [the fact of] the Lord’s death until He comes [again] (1 Cor 11:24-26)
- The one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom, and continues to do so... will be blessed in what he does (James 1:25). Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Don't be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is (Eph 5:15-17). Since we live by the Spirit, let us walk in step with the Spirit (Gal 5:25). Strive to maintain a clear conscience before God and man (Coram Deo Acts 24:16)
- Whoever has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me. The one who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and reveal Myself to him.” John 14:21
- But He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.” Luke 11:28
- Anyone who does what pleases God will live forever (1 John 2:17)
- As obedient children, do not conform to the passions of your former ignorance. / But just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do, / for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:14-16). Pray for us, clear conscience and desire to live honorably in every way (Heb 13:18), walk in a manner worthy of the Lord and may please Him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God (Col 1:10). Able to test and prove what is best (Phil 1:10-11)
- Let us cleanse ourselves from everything that defiles body and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God (2 Cor 7:1).
7) I will praise you with an upright heart, thank you by living as I should, as I learn your righteous laws/regulations/judgments.
- "I will praise you with an upright heart": This signifies a genuine and sincere expression of worship, free from deceit or hidden motives. The "heart" in the biblical context refers to the whole person—mind, will, and emotions.
- Clean hands, pure heart we stand (Psalm 24:3-4, Ez 2:2-3) in Spirit and truth (John 4:24)
- Remembering the death of the Son, give thanks to the LORD with all my heart, recount all Your wonders (Psalm 9:1), in the council of the upright and in the assembly (Psalm 111:1). Anger turned into comfort (Isaiah 12:1). Alleluia!
- Remembering creation, thanksgiving, blessing (Psalm 145:10), the second Adam (Luke 1:46-47, 1 Cor 15:15:44-47, 49), marriage of old and new (Matthew 22:37, Deuteronomy 6:5-6)
- Obeideince from Love for Christ (John 14:15), doing it (James 1:22-25) - not in vanity (Matthew 7:21-23), but witnessing our Lord doing it (Acts 1:8) in and through me (John 14:12) because of the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in Jesus name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace, untroubled heart, unafraid (John 12:-28).
