Have patience, remember God is patient too (Happy Birthday Mom!)

Growing up my mom would teach us about Jesus in every way. You could say her life verse was Deuteronomy 11:19. We've had many wonderful times together and many divine appointments "on the stairs." I put that in quotes because one day when I was frustrated with being too little to play with my 3 older siblings, my mom noticed and said sit with me "on the stairs" and let's talk. Well, I told her I was angry, hurt, and didn't know if I'd ever get to be big enough to do what they were doing. I don't remember the exact advice she gave me, but I remember how she made me feel. LOVED. Happy Birthday to my mom who always knows when I needed a talk "on the stairs".

Here's a popular song we'd hear in our house at that time.

Mom took these words to heart (Deut 11 NLT):
“You must love the Lord your God and always obey his requirements, decrees, regulations, and commands. Keep in mind that I am not talking now to your children, who have never experienced the discipline of the Lord your God or seen his greatness and his strong hand and powerful arm. ...

“So commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these words of mine. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, so that as long as the sky remains above the earth, you and your children may flourish in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors.

“Be careful to obey all these commands I am giving you. Show love to the Lord your God by walking in his ways and holding tightly to him.

What wonderful memories come to mind of our days at home when you and your siblings were young children. I believe and still live out this practice of using music to teach myself and others about the truth of Gods Word. “But each day the Lord pours his unfailing love upon me,
and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life.” Psalm 42:8
