Peace with God AND separation from people (Matthew 10:34)

How can Jesus be called the Prince of Peace and yet say, "I've not come to bring peace."

Matthew 10:34, "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword."

Peace with God

Separation from People

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 14:27

…Love of the Father (inside)…all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. - 1 John 2:15-18

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Phil 4:7

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Rom 12:2

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Rom 5:1

Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Rom 8:8

Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. Gal 5:19-21

For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. Romans 8:6

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. Gal 5:19

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Isaiah 26:3

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Cor 10:13

Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. Heb 12:14

Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. Heb 12:14

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Col 3:16

When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Eph 3:14-19

For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. God chose him as your ransom long before the world began, but now in these last days he has been revealed for your sake. 1 Peter 1:18-20

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Cor 5:17
