Jesus Christ the Son of God is born Savior, Immanuel (Matthew 1)

I'm really enjoying the start of a new year with BSF. This week we look at the Geneology of Jesus and think about God the Son. I'm reviewing openbible.info on the topic and appreciate all the people who vote up the scripture.

Matthew 1, Lesson 1 has a few possible questions to introduce the doctrine God the Son, 8.b, 11.b or 17 - notice these are application questions that can have empty space. Use this space to model what it means to you that God the Son came as Savior, God with us.

Encourage your men to read the doctrine in the notes

Father, Son, Holy Spirit Creator: Genesis 1:1-2, 26; Colossians 1:15-16; Hebrews 1:2

Jesus humbled himself to bring salvation to mankind - Philippians 2:5-11

Jesus is alive today interceding on our behalf - Matthew 26:64; Mark 16:9; Acts 2:32-33; Romans 8:34; 1 John 1:1-2

He has sent all people the Holy Spirit to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgement (John 16:8-11)

All who put their faith in Jesus are eternally saved (Romans 8:38-39), yet not the hypocrite who has an appearance of godliness but denies its power (2 Timothy 3:1-5). Ignorance is no longer excused (Acts 17:30-31), let no one deceive you in any way (2 Thes 2:2-4, Daniel 7:25, 8:25, 11:36), words can be empty (Ephesians 5:6), and the Spirit expressly states that in later times some will abandon the faith to follow deceitful spirits and the teachings of demons (1 Timothy 4:1). Deceit is worse than lies, deceit has an agenda. We need simple, pure devotion to Christ alone (2 Corinthians 11:2-4). So how can anyone know if they are deceived? Diagnostics of a depraved psychology and consequences (Romans 1:18-32)

There is no neutrality regarding God’s Son (John 3:36). God has issued a call to all humanity to come to His Son. Your response to Jesus determines your destiny and offers a way to live in harmony with your Creator and Father (John 14:6).

Matthew 1:20-23) Jesus because he will save his people from their sins. Immanuel” (which means “God with us”) Isaiah 7:14 NIV, Jesus knew God named him (John 17:12)

  • 8. b) What do both of these aspects of Jesus’ character mean to you?
  • 11.b) Of whom was Jesus born, besides Mary? Why is this important?
  • or 17) What truth about Jesus challenged or inspired you this week?

6. How have you experienced God’s grace – blessings you do not deserve?

Jesus Christ, the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, to know and embody the truth. 1 John 5:20 and now I'm a Christian (a little Christ), adopted and confirmed by the Spirit of God within me (For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. Romans 8:14)

8. a. What two names did God give to Mary’s Son? What does each name mean?

Matthew 1:20-23) Jesus because he will save his people from their sins. Immanuel” (which means “God with us”) Isaiah 7:14 NIV

The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God - Luke 1:35

Luke 2:11 - Today in the city of David a Savior has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord!

Luke 2:21 - When the eight days until His circumcision had passed, He was named Jesus, the name the angel had given Him before He had been conceived.

b. What do both of these aspects of Jesus’ character mean to you?

With my sins removed, I'm free to have a relationship with God - coming home to a welcoming father I'm blessed, instead of disgraced (Luke 15:11-32). And he's with me as a best friend (John 3:29, 15:13-15, 21:5-6,14), an expert mentor/guide (Psalm 25:5, John 16:13) showing me how to live (Romans 12:1-3).

A) Genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, royal ancestry - Matthew 1:1-17

  • Tamar – Genesis 38
  • Rahab – Joshua 2; 6:17
  • Ruth – Ruth 1; 4:13-17
  • “Wife of Uriah” – 2 Samuel 11; 12:15, 18, 24
  • Mary – Luke 1:26-56

B) Joseph reassured as God declared the names of His Son  - Matthew 1:18-25, Luke 1:26-38
